Immigrant Visas

To live and work in the U.S. permanently, a foreign national must apply for an immigrant visa (aka "Green Card"). Three main ways of obtaining a green card are:
- Employment-based sponsorship - A foreign national must find an employer who is interested in securing the alien's employment to sponsor the alien for an immigrant visa.
- Family-based sponsorship - If a foreign national has a family member who is a US citizen or permanent resident, the family member may be able to sponsor the alien for an immigrant visa.
- Asylum and refugee and suspension of deportation - A foreign national may be able to reside in the U.S. if the CIS has granted the alien an asylee (refugee) status. A foreign national who has a credible fear of future persecution in his/her home country must file for an asylum application with the CIS one year within the date of arrival. Due to the extreme complexity of asylum applications, please contact the firm for consultation.
